About us

The Columbia NSBE Chapter was recognized as an official NSBE chapter in 1980, and at the time served as a support network for the small population of black engineers here at Columbia. Since then, our chapter’s membership and influence have grown tremendously, from 15 collegiate members in 2005 to currently over 60 collegiate members and 20 pre-college members from the Bronx Engineering & Technology Academy. With backgrounds spanning the various disciplines of not just the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS), but also Columbia College and Barnard College, our collegiate membership is incredibly dynamic. Despite the differences in our academic backgrounds and career aspirations, we all realize the importance and the versatility of NSBE’s three key initiatives: excelling academically, succeeding professionally, and positively impacting the community.

With a diverse membership comes the need for a wide spectrum of programming. Here is where you come in! Our partners – both on and off-campus – are vital to our chapter’s success, and we are always looking for ways to form new partnerships. I encourage you to browse through our website to learn more about NSBE and how you could use our resources to help further your success!
